Pete Wentz Is the Only Reason Cobra Starship Are Famous?

"Pete Wentz Is the Only Reason We're Famous" is the title of the new single from Cobra Starship, and it may in fact be true. Fall Out Boy's bassist Pete Wentzhas certainly been instrumental in the rise of the post-hardcore "supergroup"CobraStarship, and they do record for his label Decaydance. However, perhaps those involved can provide a bit more insight.

Pete Wentz himself told EW.com

"I have to say Gabe Saporta (Cobra Starship leader) has been famous long before I ever knew him. Infamous, famously late...Cobra Starship is the only reason they are famous."

And now there are these words of wisdom from Gabe Saporta himself on the band's official web site:

"Anyway, so we just got the first mix of one of our new songs. We always referred to it as 'Smash it Up,' because the chorus goes .... ... smash it up.... But then, one of the shelf kids said we should name our album 'Pete Wentzis the only reason we're famous.' And we said 'Fuck you kid! We're also famous because of Patrick Stump.' But we did like how that title rolled off our tongues. So we decided to name this song that. Because it talks about our cocks. See you on tour!"

The remaining question is whether the song will make Cobra Starship famous enough that comparisons to Pete Wentzare irrelevant. The new album is expected this summer.
